Antique dollhouse sideboard. This is a fine and unusual sideboard dating most likely to the 1910’s. Stained dark red, almost brown, the upper part has rounded side windows and two glass doors. Inside is a mirror in great condition. The lower portion is quite astounding due to the embossed acanthus leaves on the drawers and floral pattern on the two doors. The embossed areas also contain a tiny raised pattern common during the Arts and Crafts movement, but the scale and detail here is impressive: the dots are about 1/32 of an inch. All the hardware is original and one of the upper doors shows some glue repair, otherwise this piece is in very good condition. Measures 6.5 by 6 inches by 2.25 deep. A special and wonderful piece.
The upper back has red paper backing, stamped Germany. Unclear if paper also covered the lower portion. Insofar as it is normally difficult to ascertain the manufacturer of dollhouse furniture, I will say that I have not seen photos of anything like this kind of decorative treatment. I will keep looking.
