Nut head folk art doll. Oh, what a wonderful, tiny bit of dolly antiquity. This 5 inch little lady has a head made of what I believe to be a pecan. Her arms are crepe-paper wrapped wire, and she wears a herringbone checked cotton dress, with a red and white shawl and an apron. At the bottom of the apron is printed "Souvenir of Dixie Land". Her dress is stiff enough to hold her up, although I have put a support in for the photos- she does not have much of a body. A very charming bit of history, clearly quite old, and despite a few scratches to her head, this doll obviously was cherished through the years. I can only guess as to the age. A real conversation starter......she has travelled, at the least, from Dixie to Downeast.
