German bisque character baby Kestner in charming knit costume. This 11 inch cabinet sized baby, model 211, on bent limb legs, is such a lively and endearing guy! He was obviously loved and cared for, because someone made him this wonderful knitted outfit. His bisque head, with its double chin, is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. He has his original hand-tied mohair wig on a cardboard pate. There is a small lighter area on his left cheek. His greyish blue glass sleep eyes work well, surrounded by two rows of painted eyelashes, and eye wax is all intact. His open/closed mouth has a molded tongue. Composition body is in very good condition: there is old repaint to center front and center back, some repaint/repair to his left hand, and repaint to his toes, all done at some time in the past.
He wears an adorable knitted wool outfit of brown wool, a cotton shirt with hand-worked buttonholes. His cotton socks match his knitted suit (really!) and his shoes are leather replacements. Inside the shoes is stamped "Petite Boots" and written in red is "492".
On the back of his head is incised 6./ Made in Germany/7./JDK/211. Left of the JDK is a tiny something (a couple of letters?) I cannot read. This is an excellent price for this desirable Kestner model.
