Vintage artist made folk art international dolls, a dancing couple depicting Bavarians, one of a subset of this series that shows the regional costumes of various provinces and/ or cities of Germany that were in existence in the 1940's. The details in each outfit are quite wonderful. 8 inches tall, base is 3 inches by 3 inches.
I am listing, over the next few weeks, a collection of these dolls that were made by a German artist in the early to mid 1940’s, whose last name was Brohle. This collection was purchased by an American woman who was in charge of a USO in Germany just after the war ended. The artist’s husband was the driver for the USO. I have acquired this collection and consider it to be a remarkable set of dolls made by a person who appears to have been overqualified. Precision and care, attention to detail, imaginative use of fabrics, sewing and embroidery skills...these are top notch for this type of doll. These were stored away for many years and are in excellent condition. The clothing is complete; all the ladies are wearing socks, stocking and underwear. Since I acquired them at a good price, I am offering them to you very reasonably- I am sure you will enjoy having at least one of these in your collection and they will also make perfect gifts.
