Vintage artist made folk art International dolls. A dancing couple depicting Switzerlanders. 7.625 inches tall, base is 3.125 by 3 inches. A lady and a man, stockinette dolls over a wire armature are having a romantic moment while dancing. Wigs are human hair, faces are have embroidered features and blushed cheeks. The man's outfit of lederhosen is delightful; apparently he has entered the chalet after an afternoon of yodeling. The lady is wearing multiple layers. This is in excellent condition with some dust on the apron.
I am posting a collection of these dolls that were made by a German artist in the early to mid 1940’s, whose last name was Brohle. This collection was purchased by an American woman who was in charge of a USO in Germany just after the war ended. The artist’s husband was the driver for the USO. I have acquired this collection and consider it to be a remarkable set of dolls made by a person who appears to have been overqualified. Precision and care, attention to detail, imaginative use of fabrics, sewing and embroidery skills...these are top notch for this type of doll. These were stored away for many years and are in wonderful condition. The clothing is complete; all the ladies are wearing socks, stocking and underwear. Since I acquired them at a good price, I am offering them to you very reasonably- I am sure you will enjoy having at least one of these in your collection and they will also make wonderful gifts.
