Early Vintage papier mache clown figure. 9.625 inches tall. This primitive jester toy appears to be a folk art figure. I love the body language of a relaxed clown taking break during his working time. Made in a press mold of papier mache pulp. He has a wonderful crackled painted face, an area near his left eye has been slightly crumpled and the paint is a bit worn in places. Facial expression, although exaggerated, is remarkably human. Simply delightful and not commonly seen. I believe this is French, from the 1920's but there are no markings. I have also in my possession a pair of these, (hoarding) listed here in the shop and they are in better condition.
