German papier mache doll, 21 inches, with beautiful face. I have been informed by authoritative sources that this is by Schilling, late 1800’s, and if so, I will now be able identify many other papier mache dolls in my possession and shop. This one has an extraordinarily lovely face with blue glass stationary eyes, her original mohair wig and original body, lower arms and legs. She is in excellent condition with no crackling to the finish and is very clean. Her shoulder plate has two small cracks on the right side that are of no consequence structurally. Her lower arms and legs show play but are intact and might be gently cleaned if you wish. She wears a charming dress with a pretty ribbon waistband and a bertha collar; this dress was likely made for her but may or may not be original. I have added her necklace. Her underclothing is a long chemise with an empire waist, a little too tight on the bodice, and knickers. I suspect these are not original. Shoes and socks appear to be original, an unusual feature on this era of papier mache dolls. An exemplar of her type.
