This is truly a fascinating ring. It is my favorite, the unique and unusual.
It has the most beautiful natural garnets which are single cut, polished and absolutely glow red. The garnets are all extremely well matched in color. They are in fact so red they look like rubies. The center garnet is large and is very deep in its mount. The decoration around the center garnet on the gold is early etching with a simple leaf type decoration. The gold is yellow and is testing around 16K. The ring is a US size 9 and weighs 5.71 grams. It is completely original including the shank.
This is quite early and is Circa 1700. I have spent nearly 3 months researching the circa of this piece and with the help of 4 well seasoned dealers with collectively 160 years of experience between them and a GIA employee feel very confident of its age. One of my most trusted colleges actually feels the ring dates earlier, around 1650.
This was very likely consigned by its owner with his or her bench jeweler. It probably was a gentleman's ring given its generous size. It is possible to size the ring up or down by an experienced bench jeweler.
The ring was purchased in Italy and is European in origin. It is in very good to excellent antique condition with no apologies to be made. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
.*** Please note I am going to be adding to this listing shortly with approximate weight and measurements on the garnets.
