What a nice treat to have a Georgian period natural quartz crystal stick-pin.
This is an excellent example.. The round faceted foil back quartz is a very large size and measures 12mm x 12 x 6mm's deep. This is the equivalent of a 450 or 4 1/2 carat diamond. The twisted silver pin and quartz together measure 2 3/4" in length. Please note, this is an approximation of stone weight. Without taking it out of the mount it is not possible to get it exact however I measure on the conservative side.
The stone is cut in a fancy crimped collet-setting. I had a bit of trouble with the photos as it has so much sparkle but I will say it is much better in hand.
With antique stick-pins I have had clients that collect them in their original grandeur and never change them. Some like to wear them in their hats. Then I have had a group of women who bring them to their personal bench jeweler and they take the pin portion and turn it into a band which then turns it into a gorgeous ring. This would be a fabulous ring indeed.
It is in excellent antique condition. You may be seeing fingerprints on the stone but it is not scratched. The foil remains fantastic and will remain that way as long as it avoids being exposed to water.
Professionally tested for natural quartz, this is not glass paste.
Purchased in Italy however it may in fact be French.
This is circa 1800, Georgian period.
A lovely piece with no apologies to be made. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
