These are the most impressive Georgian cufflinks I have had. The pastes are enormous and the pink foils make them absolutely irresistible. I can imagine a high society gent dressed with wig, heavy velvet coat and stiff white collar shirt wearing these grand links to finish off his refined outfit...
The mounts are wonderful and of course completely decorated behind their puffy mounts. Each paste has a fancy crimped pie crust mount that comes just over the paste so they have been protected from chipping. These are made of silver, likely 800-900 per European and era standard. The pierced links are also hand etched on both sides. The pink foils have remained in remarkable condition. Clearly they were not exposed to water.
Each paste measures just a hair under 3/4" across. They are 3/8" deep not including the button O ring that attaches the links. When fully extended there is 3/4" of room. Measuring from top of top paste to top of the second when fully extended they are 1 1/2" long. One link weighs 7.71 grams and the other 7.23 grams.
Condition is very good to excellent antique condition. As mentioned, pink foils are very good with nearly no loss at all.
European in origin these are early, Circa 1780.
Lovely antique green velvet box included..
Some dealer may have clipped the button hooks off and added an ear wire so they could become earrings. I just cannot imagine changing them from their glorious original condition. These are quite decadent and the new owner is going to have something incredible to add to their collection. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
