I am more than pleased to offer this stunning Italian Giardinetti paste ring. One large tulip and a daisy grace the asymmetrical face. The design is big and bold which makes this ring even more special. I have seen these rings before however never in this impressive size.
The black dot pastes easily identifies its age as being from the Georgian period. Small bits of black enamel and sulfur were mixed and then hand painted behind the paste to emulate the diamond of its day. Each paste was hand cut and hand set into a crimped silver rubbed over setting. All the original 'stones' are in place. Not only is the face brilliant with a stylized design but I love the original large split gold shoulders.
Made popular in 1740~1750 this wonderful floral arrangement was certainly made to impress. The Italian word giardinetti translates to 'little garden' in English.
The face of the ring measures 1 1/4" North to South and 1" East to West. The ring is currently a US size 8 1/2 but can easily be sized up or down by 2 full sizes.
Very good to excellent condition. A couple of the black dots have faded over the past couple of hundred years. The pastes are very, very good. The face is silver and the shank is testing for more than 10K and less than 14K. From history we know bench jewelers had different formula's when they mixed their alloys with the gold sheets they purchased.
Circa 1750 ~ Italian in origin
This is a very fine and truly rare ring fit for the finest of collections. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
