My favorite... This wonderful cushion cut natural quartz crystal stone has a fancy collet crimped silver mount. There is a very distinct black dot in the center which for the time, jeweler's believed would emulate the culet of the bottom of the stone. The ring is just so darn beautiful..
The stone measures 7.5mm x 7.5mm x approximately 4.5mm deep. This would equate to a 156 point or a 1 1/2 carat diamond. The band which may have been replaced in antiquity is rose gold and has professionally tested for 15K gold. The rock crystal is in beautiful condition and is very clear and beautiful. The quartz crystal has been professionally tested and is not paste..
The ring is a US size 6 3/4 and can easily be sized up or down by at least 2 sizes. There is a foil behind the stone which is pristine. Please take care to remove the ring prior to washing your hands to preserve the foil. I usually always recommend that when Georgian foiled gems are not being worn to keep them inside of a jewelry box or in a drawer to further preserve their foils.
It is such an eye catcher and it feels absolutely wonderful on the finger. It is very unique and in excellent antique condition.
There are no hallmarks but purchased in Italy. It may be French or simply European. Whomever made it did a fantastic job. In my personal opinion, it is simply a show stopper!
Circa 1800, may be a wee bit older.
