This is a nice big Orthoclase Moonstone Cab that has been collet-set into a lovely handmade rose gold setting.
The stone is extremely interesting and quite unusual. I purchased this piece in Boston last week. While I was buying it a gemologist who happened to be there gave me a nice education about it. He believes it is very unique and was likely mined in Afghanistan.
The moonstone is large in size. The actual stone measures 33 x 14mm x 7mm's deep. This would be equivalent to a 30 carat cab stone. The setting is testing for at least 14K rose gold. The brooch weighs 7.5 grams.
It is currently a brooch however if you simply slide a chain under the hinge portion it can easily be worn as a pendant / necklace.
Excellent antique condition with no apologies to be made.
Likely American in origin, circa 1900 ~ sitting on the late Victorian / early Edwardian period.
