These antique earrings are stunning...
Fit for the finest of collections these Italian earrings are completely original. The garnets are hand faceted and draped with gold leaves on all sides. The bench jeweler capped the bottom of each garnet with a fancy scalloped gold flower. They are articulated below the original Shepherd wire, and under the top garnet. They are finished off with a gold ball dangle.
Both faceted garnets are pegged through with gold wire. Each of the 8 gold leaves are hand decorated and they are so impressive.
The gold has professionally tested for 15K yellow gold. There is something about the warm glow of 15K that is so wonderful and it is my personal favorite.
The earrings dangle 2 1/2" from the top of the wires. One earring weighs 9.28 grams and the other 9.46 for a total of 18.74 grams. It is an impressive weight. I wore these earrings all day yesterday and they have the most fluid movement and are super comfortable on the ear. They frame the face with beauty and grace.
The condition is very good to excellent. On one of the gold leaves which is located on the backside, there is a small indentation to the gold. The location hides this small imperfection. The garnets are beautiful and there may be a few little rough edges but nothing remarkable. The earwires hold Italian touch marks that I have not been able to identify. Italy used so many hallmarks and some only lasted a few years making exact maker a bit difficult.
These are circa 1880, Victorian in origin.
