I happen to adore antique Victorian buckle jewelry and this bangle is a fantastic example. This bracelet was produced by the B&B or, Bates and Bacon Company. They were a fine jewelry company that was located in Attleboro, Mass. The company was in business from 1856-1943. They produced very nice jewelry and in addition were also leaders in design with many patents for attachments, bales etc.
The wide gold filled bangle is a combination of yellow and rose gold. The smooth portion of the buckle, clip and finding all has a rosy hue. It is extra wide and it closes with a perfect snap. It has beautiful floral hand chased work which meanders all the way around.
The bangle measures 1” tall. The inside measurements are 2 3/8” x 1 7/8”. This is a pretty standard size and will fit a medium wrist with ease. It has great heft and weighs 43 grams. The condition is very good. It is excellent on the outside with no dings or dents. On the inside there are a few scuffs and a bit of wear but will never be noticed when worn. The hallmark is on the tongue as shown. The piece is circa 1880 and a super fine example which looks fantastic on the wrist.
Although this is gold filled it looks exactly like solid gold bangles I have had in the past. Just a beauty... Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
