The Indian Head eagle, designed by Saint-Gaudens, was the basis for the designs for the smaller gold pieces such as this 2 1/2 dollar quarter
A very nice 2 1/2 dollar Indian Head gold coin which was beautifully converted to a tie tack. The bezel was proudly made by a high end bench jeweler and it is hallmarked with his initials MB. The coin is 91.67% fine yellow gold and the bezel is brushed 14K gold. The back of the tie clip has professionally tested for 950 silver.
The coin is very pretty and this would definitely be a statement on a tie. Or, the bezel can be left in place and a bale can be added so it can be converted to a pendent and worn as a necklace. If that is something you would like to do, I have a bench jeweler that would be able to do the conversion for you. Please do email me and I can discuss how we can make that work for you.
The coin and bezel weigh 7 grams. The silver locking back has professionally tested for a high grade, 950 silver. It weighs 1.5 grams.
Although I am not a coin expert, the detail is very good and extremely sharp. I purchased this coin from its original owners wife. The owner purchased the coin new in 1915 and about 10 years later had the bezel made. I was told he wore it proudly on his favorite ties.
This would be a terrific gift. This is something very unique and may be perfect for hard to buy for dapper man who has everything.
