This is one of the nicest Gypsy set diamond rings that I have had. The mount is hefty and domed so it is extremely comfortable on the hand..
The diamond is super eye clean and very white. It is a nice size stone and the diamond cutter did a fantastic job with it. The diamond is cushion, mine cut. The diamond has so much personality which is why I just adore mine cut stones. The stone measures approximately 6 x 6 mm x 5mm deep. That would equate to roughly 50++ point diamond. Without taking the diamond out of the setting please note that this is approximate. I can say it shows very well and the diamond looks large. The 6 point inverted prong setting will insure this diamond will stay put. The jeweler opened up a nice round hole behind the diamond to allow the light to flood through. The entire setting is domed and is incredibly comfortable on the finger.
The ring is impressive in size. It measures 1/2" across the face. The setting feels smooth and is stamped 14K. It also has nice weight and is 7 grams of yellow gold. My bet is that was originally a ring made for a man however this looks fantastic on a woman's finger as well. It is a US size 8 1/2 but can easily be sized up or down by 2 full sizes. Please remember, with bands this wide, you generally go down 1/2 size. Therefore it should fit a US size 8.
The diamond is super white and very high on the color chart. Visually through my jeweler's loupe I approximate that this is in the VS range and G-H in color. Also, even with my jeweler's loupe, I see no inclusions or carbon.
I am having a difficult time keeping this ring out of my husband's hands. He generally glances at my buys but once in a great while he is really impressed. He has good reason to like this ring. It has wonderful age and is circa 1900. This sits right on the Victorian / Edwardian border. It is likely American in Origin. It would make a fantastic wedding band for either a man or a woman who wants a low sitting and comfortable ring that can be worn everyday. Mint condition with no apologies to be made.
This diamond alone I am sure is worth far more than what I am asking for this ring. I am not generally a fan of this but, the diamond could be put into a more modern setting and given as a wedding engagement ring. Sparkle galore and absolutely eye candy.. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
