This is a nice large and very well made paste pendant. The pendant has hand cut paste which were cut, much like a diamond would have been. During this period, there were no machines that stamped out these stones. A gem cutter carefully cut and faceted each and every one. Each stone has been carefully collet set (the silver comes all the way around the pastes) ensuring they will not be lost.
The pendant is articulated under the top portion which allows for lovely movement. The pastes are foil backed and are in wonderful condition. There are no dead or dark stones. There is minimal foil wear and it still glistens galore. The stones are all close backed. It is stamped 900 with a maker's mark, perhaps LM.
It is a nice size piece and measures 2 1/4" x 1 1/4" across. The pendant alone weighs 13 grams so it has nice weight.
The pendant is circa 1880 ~ Victorian
It is in very good to excellent antique condition with no apologies to be made. . The pendant is currently on a relatively new sterling silver chain. I would be happy to include it if you would like. Or, it can easily be slipped on one of your antique chains, a piece of ribbon or velvet.
Purchased in France, European in origin.
