For your consideration is this large wonderful sparkling paste brooch set in a 15K gold mount.
The white paste stones are multi-faceted and cushion cut. Each stone is safely collet set. The center largest stone measures 11mm x 11mm. The outer pastes measure approximately 9mm x 9mm. In between each paste there is a delicate, hand chased leaf decoration. The setting is made of gold and has been professionally tested for 15K which was very typical of the time period. Generally this type of piece was set in Silver with a gold vermeil. It is lovely to have this mount be solid gold. It was likely made for a higher end client.. The piece is all original including the C clasp and pin.
The brooch measures 1 1/2 x 1 1/2" and weighs 11 grams.
The pastes look like diamonds as all were hand cut by a gem cutter who would cut paste one day, then diamonds, rubies or emeralds the next.
Condition is Very good to Excellent with only some very gentle wear to pastes consistent with age. Circa 1840, A wonderful Late Georgian, Early Victorian piece. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
Please Note: A bale can be added and this could be converted to a pendant. It would make a lovely necklace.
