Simply Fabulous. These very scarce double dangle French paste earrings have always been just that, earrings.... So many buttons and cufflinks have been converted and later in life become 'converted earrings.' Simply not the case with this glamorous pair.
They are all original and not only are they hallmarked behind each large dangle, they are also hallmarked on both earwires. What a wonderful treat these are.
Please remember, these mine cut pastes were not stamped out by machine. A gem cutter would sit and cut paste one day, diamonds, sapphire, emeralds, etc. following days. I have such a true love and appreciation for antique paste. In fact, most of my prized personal pieces are in fact paste.
The stones are large and an impressive size. The bottom 'stones' measure approximately 7.5 x 7.5 x 6 mm's deep. This would be the equivalent to a 231 point diamond, or, 2 carats 30 points each for a total of 462 points, 4 carats plus 62 points. There are 100 points to 1 carat when converting stone weight.
The top 'stones' measure 5.5 mm x 5.5 x 4.5 mm's deep. Those are equivalent to approximately 110 points each. 2 1/4 carats combined weight.
All stone weight is approximated as without taking stones out of settings it is simply not possible to get exact weight however, I always measure on the conservative side. TPW (Total Paste Weight) is 6 carats 82 points. All four pastes are fancy collet crimped so they will not be lost. Warm patina surrounds all of the mounts. I love them as they are. I never polish off centuries of patina. If the new owner wants to polish them further, that is always their choice.
The earrings dangle slightly more than 1 1/4". Across the bottom dangles and at the largest measurement they measure 1/2" across the bottom.
The earrings are very close in weight. One weighs 5.8 grams and the other weighs 5.7 grams for a total of 11.6 grams. A perfect weight as they are not too heavy and can be worn comfortably for many, many hours.

The earrings are hallmarked on the back of the large dangle with the rooster. This touch mark was used from 1798-1809. Both earwires are hallmarked as well, early French..
Silver is standard for Europe which is between 800-900.
Condition is excellent in my personal opinion. Stones are excellent and may have 1 or 2 nibbles however only visible with a 10x jeweler's loupe. The foil backed stones are wonderful with little to no discoloration. The pastes look like diamonds.
A hair longer than a 1 1/4" dangle X 1/2" at the widest portion. Weight is 5.8 grams and 5.7 grams for a total of 11.6 grams..
French, French, and Fabulous.
This is only the 3rd pair of earrings of this style I have had in nearly 20 years. However, this is only the first pair I have had with a double dangle.. I would actually put these in the rare category. This type of earring is highly coveted are highly sought after by collectors. I believe them to be simply wonderful. Please do take a moment to enlarge the photos. Even if these are not for you, they are most certainly worth having a look at. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
