An unusual combination of hand sanded shaped disc natural banded agate and round sanded beads make up this wonderful necklace. The combination of bronze, brown, tan, black, clear and white agate is really is something to see.. I have had quite a bit of lovely banded agate but this is one unique necklace. The brown tones is such a nice change from the more common black and white I commonly and frequently see.
There are 10 round discs in the very front followed by 28 round sanded balls after the last smallest disc for a total of 56 round beads..
The necklace measures the perfect 18" long. It weighs 33.8 grams. The largest disc measures 7/8" and they slowly graduate down. The sanded balls are nearly all the exact same size..
I love the way it lays on the neck. It is very comfortable and can be worn all day and night without problem. You also do not need to protect this against water. Agate can easily be exposed, even in the shower without problem. To protect the silk it is strung on, you may want to remove it before but if you forget it is not going to harm this gem..
Excellent antique condition with no apologies to be made. I do believe that a newer O ring at the very end of the necklace was changed at some point. The pull-back C clasp is silver and appears original. The smaller ring on the other side is a split-ring and was replaced. It does not affect this in the least.
I purchased this out of London and believe it to be European in origin.
Circa 1900, possibly earlier. It sits directly on the late Victorian / early Edwardian period..
