Absolutely my very Favorite Nouveau Bracelet of the year! 'Art Nouveau' is French for 'new art'. The bangle just Screams Nouveau and it is simply Gorgeous.. Not Silver, Not Gold but Brass... Using and mixing up metals and stones during the Nouveau movement was monumental and artisans were free to use their abilities to try something new. Artisans broke away from the 'standard' or common jewel for the period. Generally speaking, Victorian jewels tight and uniform. A cutting edge group of artists broke the mold and laid a pathway so new and different that this new type of jewelry was featured and shown at World Fairs... This grand new expression or movement of their lamps, paintings, jewels, fancy painted porcelain pieces etc. were all the rage. The Art Nouveau movement was where poppies and scrolled designs were born. Remember although this started in 1890, the Victorian Period, Nouveau was a movement, not a period. It was an international philosophy where the style of art, architecture, applied art, especially decorative arts were most popular during 1890–1910 I must say, it was one of my favorites as straying away from the (Norm) has always appealed to me. I always have loved being just a bit different...

The bangle has the most delicious warm patina. The color very much looks like bronze. There are green art glass cabochons that look very much like Jade. The decoration on this piece so well defined and the workmanship superb. There is open cutout work around each stone. The large stones are open backed, the smaller stones are not. There are no visible seam lines to this bangle. It is oval which I happen to prefer as they do not flip around like round bracelets do.

The bracelet has a wall height of just a hair under 3/4". The inside measurements are 2 1/4 x 2 3/4". This will accommodate a medium to large wrist with ease. It is a bit larger than standard for the period which is so very nice. So many of these old bangles were small in size as most woman of the period were tiny. If you have a small wrist and are worried it will be too large there still may be a solution. It can be pushed up the arm and worn higher. I do that myself with bangles that are a big large for my wrist.

The condition is Very Good. The bangle is just slightly out of round however it does not affect the look on the wrist in the slightest.

There is one of the very small stones missing which honestly I did not even realize because there are so many. I don't feel it distracts in the least. It is just a stunning piece which I happen to adore.

If you fancy Art Nouveau, this would be a wonderful piece to add to your collection. Unmarked but possibly French as this is where I purchased it.

Circa 1890 and of the Art Nouveau / Victorian period. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
