Impressive in size, weight and beauty. This large brooch is just wonderful. It is a double bar pin which has 2 beautiful flowers which are made up of two natural round faceted purple Amethyst in the center's which are collet set and round hand cut pastes all around. The pastes are all very securely prong set. They are also very, very white and clean. These pastes were cut exactly like diamonds and they sparkle like them as well. All about are securely collet set natural seed pearls. They all have wonderful luster and are white in color. There are 12 natural pearls in all.
This brooch has an old open C catch which is in perfect condition. The back is stamped K12. It has an 18K gold (bloom) over the 12K. That is a process where they first produced a piece in gold, 12K in this case and then dipped it in a higher carat gold. 18K was used to finish off this piece.
It is a good size and measures 2 1/2" long x 1" at the widest portion of the flowers. It weighs 7.5 grams of solid gold. Most of the weight in this piece is the gold as the stones weigh very little. The brooch sits right on the Late Victorian / Early Edwardian Period. It is Circa 1900. It is in Excellent antique condition with absolutely no apologies to be made. It is such a beautiful piece. It would look Fabulous on a black jacket or sweater. It is ever so classy.. Questions are always welcome.
