Giardinetti brooches were designed as vases or flower pots of tiny paste, diamond or gemstone flowers. They were especially popular during the Georgian period but retained its popularity right through the Edwardian Era. This sweet little basket is adorned with genuine gemstones.
This beautiful little Giardinetti Brooch, in French meaning (Little Garden) is an extraordinary example of such a piece. The stones have all been tested and they are all genuine gemstones. There are very light red garnets, purple Amethyst, light green Peridot, light blue Aqua Marines and white, black dot clear quartz crystals. The Amethyst are so deep in purple that I thought that they were actually sapphires and the garnets so light they look like rubies. All of the stones are rose cut and safely bead set so they will not be lost. The basket itself is wonderful and has pierced openwork both to the basket and around all of the stones. The gems that are set in the flower work are set in silver. The top of the basket is completely hand etched with bright cut work and is tested 9K Rose gold over silver.
This really is a very special piece. It has 2 French Hallmarks on the side of the open C clasp, both French boar's head.
French in origin. Circa 1850, early Victorian.. The black dot quartz crystals helps to easily identify its circa as painted black dots on the back of where the cullets are was done primarily in the Georgian period. This is a transitional piece.. Late Georgian / Early Vicky.
The condition is Excellent with no apologies to be made.
The boar's head indicates 900 which was the standard for fine French silver pieces. The top of the basket is tested 9K gold.
All of the stones have been professionally tested as has the gold. It measures 1 1/8" across x 15/16." The sweet little pin weighs 5 grams.
This is a small but powerful piece. This is absolutely fit for the finest of collections. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
