Art Nouveau was an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry and glass design, posters, and illustration. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the imitative historicism that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. Art Nouveau developed first in England and soon spread to the European continent, where it was called Jugendstil in Germany, Sezessionstil in Austria, Stile Floreale (or Stile Liberty) in Italy, and Modernismo (or Modernista) in Spain. The term Art Nouveau was coined by a gallery in Paris that exhibited much of this work. **

This great bracelet is a perfect example of Nouveau.. The piece is made of brass, has flowing stylized flowers and boasts 3 large open backed faceted green paste stones. It has nice warm patina which has not been disturbed. It is oval in shape which I prefer with a bracelet so it does not have a tendency to flip around on the wrist which is one of my personal pet peeves.

The bracelet is larger than most.. If you happen to have a larger wrist, this would work beautifully. On larger bangles such as these, I simply push the bracelet up my arm. It has an inside measurement of 2 3/4" x 2 1/4". In the front the widest measurement is 3/4". The back of the bracelet measures 3/8". It weighs 21 grams.

Condition is perfect with no apologies to be made. When the bracelet was made, the bench jeweler finished off the piece with a tight but original seam at the very back. It does not distract in the least..

This bracelet was purchased in France however it is not marked. Likely European.

Circa 1900, true Art Nouveau. The year places the bracelet directly on the Victorian / Edwardian age boarder.

A very pretty bangle made with lots of love by its jeweler.. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
