Rare Antique Black Dot Rock Crystal 18K Gold Dangle Earrings ~ Georgian Era

Rare and absolutely glorious! Finding beautiful high-end Georgian jewelry is always difficult, but these earrings are extra spectacular... They are little gemstone bouquets with gold leaves, all of which are hand decorated and etched by the bench jeweler. The black dot crystals are natural out of the earth crystals, not glass paste. Also, this is the very first piece of jewelry I have had that has Golden Rutilated Quartz. It is magical and matches the gold in a refreshing and delightful manner.

They are all original including the long fantastic earwires. Long shepard wires both have one leaf right where it attaches to the first articulation. There are 6 leaves winding their way around with long stems. The dangles are professionally tested quartz. The black dots were used primarily during the Georgian period which makes it very easy to identify age. Bench jewelers felt that by painting a black dot (a mixture of sulfur and black enamel usually) it would emulate a diamond. It was brilliant for the period as jewels were mostly closed backed. There are 8 foil backed cushion cut crystals which surround a smooth pear shaped cabochon crystal. Both of those cabs are Golden Rutilated Quartz. It is one of the few gems where inclusions are desirable. All the stones were cut exactly like diamonds would have been by an experience gem cutter. Quartz is harder than glass and of course is a naturally mined out of the earth gem.

They are a terrific size. The earrings dangle 2" from the top of the earwire x 1 full inch across the widest portion of the gold leaves. The dangles on their own measure 3/4" x 1/2" across. Earwires are long and super easy to put on and take off. They are a long length so they will not be lost. The top leaves and wires have professionally tested for 18K yellow gold. The dangles are silver. Each stone is safely collet set (silver comes around the stone) so they will not fall out. Each earring weighs Exactly 3.9 grams for a total of 7.7 grams for the pair. Perfect weight in my opinion. As I am aging I find earrings that are too heavy weigh the earlobes down and become uncomfortable when worn all day or night.

Circa 1780 ~ Georgian Era

Condition ~ Very good to excellent antique condition. On the back of one dangle there is a dent. This is super common for Georgian pieces. I actually see it on nearly every piece. In no way will this distract nor will anybody ever notice. Fronts are pristine with no apologies to be made.

18K Yellow Gold and silver. 7.7 grams total weight.

Sincerely one of the most beautiful and unusual pair of earrings I have had the pleasure of offering. They are rare and I have never seen another pair like them. Most certainly fit for the finest of collections and book worthy. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.

** Gemstone bouquets... Evening jewels in the shape of flowers were a passion with Georgian women. T.D. Saint's New Book of Designs for Jeweller's Work published in 1770 contained over twenty plates of various sized floral bouquets for hair, neck, ears, wrists and dress. These became a specialty of the esteemed jeweller, James Cox, who exhibited them in 1774 in his catalogue. There he proclaims that his flowers were 'copied from nature in all its infinite variety of tints and forms with different coloured gems - all in motion being fixed to springs of tempered gold which gives them vibrations as if blown by the wind...'

Golden Rutilated Quartz like all types of quartz crystal are strong amplifiers, and Rutile is also a strong amplifier. The sizzling power of the threads of rutile will bring through intense energy, and combined with the quartz create an amazing vibration. This process may stimulate your spiritual creativity, and your ability to manifest what you desire in your life, through the power of intention. These stones are powerful amplifiers of your thoughts, allowing you to make contact with the Divine mind and receive Divine inspiration, and this has the potential to activate your creativity.
