This is a great vintage hinged Fede bangle. I have only seen a few around in many years. It is a hard bangle and it opens where the hands clasp together. It closes tight and stays together. There is a very heavy gold gilt over tested silver. It is at least 900. I purchased the piece in England. It has a hallmark which I am not familiar with. There are numbers, 3844 and a head of some sort in the center of a cartouche.
It has an inside measurement of 2 1/4" x 2" which is very standard. Because the bangle opens with a hinge, it will fit nearly any size wrist. The hand portion measures 1/2" from thumb on one hand to pinky on the second. From wrist to wrist it measures 3/4" across. It has nice weight and weighs 12.7 grams.
I happen to adore hand jewels. They have been around for centuries and I happen to be partial to all of it. Fantastic detail to the fingers and hands. Seems there is a female hand which is a bit more delicate on the top and the man's hand is the hand where the thumb is visible when closed. I have sold several Fede rings but this is the first bracelet I have had. Fede rings started becoming popular in the 18th century so there are many antique pieces around. The style is so popular that they are still making variations of them today.
This is in excellent condition with no apologies to be made. European in origin. Circa 1940 ~ 50. A great piece that can be enjoyed for years to come. What a beautiful and sentimental gift this would make to your loved one! The holidays are right around the corner.. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
