In 20 years of dealing in antique jewelry, this is the first piece like this I have come across. There are beautiful fire opals that are set micromosaic style. The figure is a lovely young woman with a hat and long curls.
The jeweler who made her did a superb job with the opals. When you run your finger over the top it is completely smooth. I am unsure how he was able to achieve this. The onyx is completely black and sanded perfectly smooth on both sides.
The onyx is set with a nice deep and safe tested 14K yellow gold bezel. There is a nice size O ring which will easily take a gold chain or an antique ribbon.
The piece dangles 1 3/4" from the top of the O ring and is 1/2" across. It weighs 4.3 grams.
Mint condition with no apologies to be made.
Circa 1920 sitting right on the Art Deco / Edwardian period.
Purchased in Italy and is European in Origin.
