Such a pretty large piece of translucent carnelian is surrounded with sterling silver. There are 5 decorated silver claws that keep the carnelian in place. I believe there were 6 at one time. Difficult to notice but I am pricing the piece based on this.
It measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". The pin is straight and the C clasp is in perfect working order. It weighs 14.3 grams. The color is just beautiful.
Likely European, no hallmarks. Circa 1880, Victorian period. Tested for Sterling and carnelian. I can be worn as a brooch or, you can slip a ribbon or antique silver chain through the center and it can be worn as a necklace. Questions are always welcome and encourage.
