What a fantastic find! I just purchased this amazing bug in Boston 2 days ago. When I first found it I thought that it was rock crystal and silver. As soon as I brought him outside he absolutely glowed a super light purple. I then thought it was a moonstone but now that I have him home, I have had him professionally tested. There are 2 large almost crystal clear Amethyst cabs. One for his body and one for his head. On top it is hallmarked 15C. It has been professionally tested both electronically and with acid for 15K.
He has 6 wonderful little legs and 2 eyes. I thought that maybe he was a ladybug but I'm just not sure of what kind of insect he is. He measures 1 1/4" from eye to longest part of back leg. He measures 7/8" across from leg to leg. His body cab measures 3/4" x 1/2" x 1/4" thick. His head cab measures 3/8" x 3/8" x 1/4" deep. He weighs 5.3 grams. The open C clasp is in perfect working order.
Because he is hallmarked 15C, I believe he is of English origin. Being he is white gold, he is circa 1900, Victorian period. The piece is in Excellent antique condition with no apologies to be made.
I don't often use the word rare in my listings but I know this fits the bill. So difficult to find and what an unusual little bug. Fit for the finest of collections. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
