This is a very fine piece. The top is tortoise shell and has inlaid Sterling Pique work, which is decorated in the shape of a wreath. The edges are beautiful and have wonderful detail. It stands on 3 cabriole style legs. The round Sterling Trinket box retains its original deep blue velvet lining.
The piece is well hallmarked. On the bottom of the piece it is hallmarked with the Birmingham anchor, Lion passant for England and an k for year 1909. It is also hallmarked with one of the Kings personal jewelers, Mappin & Webb. The owner had the bottom of the box engraved with numbers and initials to identify the piece. It is also hallmarked under the lip where the box opens with a lion and again with the letter k.
The casket measures 2 5/8" across and stands 1 1/4" tall. Condition is excellent with no damage. The hinge is in perfect working order and the piece closes very well. Made in 1909, Edwardian period and completely fabulous. You can keep your favorite watch, ring or perhaps bracelet tucked safely away in this casket. My favorite old Georgian ring is currently in this box now. This wonderful box is absolutely good enough for the finest of collections. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.
