It's difficult to describe this stunning necklace. This is a very rare and highly sought after Hattie Carnegie necklace featuring giant (gumdrop) clear topaz colored cabochon's and ruby red accent cabs. The type of Cabs that were used really remind me of the Cabs Coro used in their Carmen Miranda pieces. Each of the 8 Topaz Cabs are encircled with brilliant clear sparklie rhinestones. Hattie Added domed pear and oval shaped ruby red cabs between the links and finished off the beautiful clasp with one more red cab. The chain is fully rhinestone all the way to the adjustable clasp.
The necklace measures 16" however can be worn shorter (choker style) if you like. It is signed on the center piece "Hattie Carnegie." Each topaz cab measures 3/4" x 5/8" across x 1/2" deep. That is not including the rhinestones around the cab. Each individual cab link measures 1" across. The condition is very good. There are a few slightly darkened rhinestones in the necklace however this is very early Hattie and is completely age appropriate. I have studied the back and it appears that it was a silver toned metal that was outlined with a gold wash. Or, its possible that the gold wash has worn. It absolutely does not distract from this gorgeous necklace. This is a very rare and hard to find piece fit for the finest of collections. It was difficult to capture the sheer beauty of this piece. I must say, it is far better in person. Questions are always welcome. Please note: I purchased this from the original owner and she purchased it in the early 50's. She recalls it to be either 1952 or 1953.
