The rainbow effect is simply remarkable... Dragon's Breath also referred to as "Mexican Glass Opal, Glass Jelly Opal, or Glass Fire Opal's" these are names that the stone has picked up. It is actually man-made glass that was produced by adding metal to the molten glass. This is what gives the "stone" such electric shades of blue, white, orange and many other color flashes.
This cab is just fascinating and changes color every single time it is moved to a different position. I've taken 9 photo's because I think it is so interesting to see how it changes color in different lights.
The cab measures 20mm x 11mm x 6mm deep. This would convert to approximately an 7 3/4 Carat (Opal Cab.) I used an Opal as the stone for conversion as it is the closest on the conversion scale. The Cab is set in a white gold bezel setting. The stick pin measures 2 1/2" long. Although it is not marked, I have used my electronic gold testing machine and it tests for 9K gold. This has been double checked with acid. It is gold which is quite unusual as most Dragon's Breath pieces were set in Sterling Silver or Brass.
It is in Mint condition. There is no damage to the cab or pin. The total weight is 2.5 grams however it is mostly cab weight. This is Circa 1930 and is from the Art Deco Period. European in Origin as the 9K was frequently used in Europe. What an interesting piece! Questions are always welcome. Please do Super Size these photo's for a wonderful tour de colour..
Please Note: This pin can be converted to a ring or pendant / necklace by either clipping off the pin portion and adding a band, or by adding a simple bail.
