Rare Austro-Hungarian Sterling Silver Enamel St George & Dragon Pendant c1880
This handcrafted pendant shows St. George, the patron saint of England, slaying a dragon.
Austria-Hungary established itself as a maker of quality jewelry during in the 1800s. Finely crafted three dimensional details on the front and the back including the articulated spear St. George is using to slay the dragon speak to that tradition of excellence in this exquisite pendant.
Workshops in Austria-Hungary crafted the majority of these Renaissance and Gothic Revival pieces between 1860 and 1910. This antique St. George pendant was made around 1880 in Austria-Hungary, during the Victorian Era.
