This lovely brooch is inspired by the Egyptian Revival, an architectural and decorative arts movement spurred from the 1790s onwards by archaeological discoveries of Ancient Egyptian treasures. The brooch features 2 mold blown turquoise glass scarabs, one in a bezel setting, the other prong set. The detailing on the gold plated metal wings is much finer than that on any other scarab I have seen, the result of particularly skilled craftsmanship. They are curved slightly to resemble a scarab in flight.
It is fastened at the back by a pin and simple 'C' catch fastening.
Just under 3" wide and 2" top to bottom. The dangling scarab is just under an inch in length.
