Victorian ladies liked to carry their cosmetics with them as they danced in order to freshen up immediately afterward. In the early 1900s...rouge pots and powder compacts with attached finger rings, much like chatelaines were utilized for this purpose.
Here is a lovely silver colored octagonal hinged box with machine turned background showcasing a stylized embossed Phoenix on top. The remainder of the box is beautifully textured with a wood like engraving. Beneath the lid is a mirror (that shows its age). The interior is clean (although a little bit discolored). A 2 3/4" chain attaches a ring to the box. The ring is approximately a size 6.
Hinged, octagonal box is 1 5/8"
