Here is a vintage hand knotted Indian Darien Rug attributed to an unknown weaver from Jaipur, India. Measures approx. 8.5"L x 6"W. Just appraised for $1,125.00USD.
The rug is an India Darien rug. The rug is a "hand knotted" rug which takes months to weave - the warps are the fringe tassels of the rug. Wool knots are twisted/tied around two warps across the width of the rug. Then a weft, or several wefts is used to interlace in front and behind each and every warp in order to hold that row of knots solidly in place. Then the next row of knots is tied.
There is a side cord which is only seen on "hand knotted" India Darien rugs. There is a narrow tan or brown perimeter around the large central design which has a sky blue color background on which there are woven four patterns that are the "Tree of Life" on each side of four motifs which symbolize the boteh motif widely used throughout Persia and India.
Boteh means cluster of leaves and could be displayed in various directions and arrangements in a curvilinear or rectilinear style. Darien is a city in Jaipur, India.
Rug measures approx. 8.5"L x 6"W. Overall very good condition with no rips or tears. There is some minor staining/fading on small areas of the rug as seen in the pictures.
