This is a rare signed Butler and Wilson sterling silver brooch/ lapel pin. This stunningly unusual piece depicts playboys FEMLIN character on top hat. This character graced playboys magazine for over 50yrs. The artist Leroy Neiman created this character for Hugh Hefner. this was made by Butler and Wilson so signed. How it came to be i do not know but thanks to a wonderful ruby lane woman we know who the character is! . At an impressive 2 1/4" long and over 1 1/2" wide this rare piece is an eye catcher. I have not yet found reference for this piece. The pictures show the detail and signature well and if anyone has further information an idea I always glad to hear from you. The pin back and clasp in excellent working condition and there is a very little of tarnish on the back of the piece but i do not wish to try to clean it.
Well talk about a conversation piece and true Americana history! I believe this would be a wonderful addition to any vintage collection and designer collection. As rare as this piece seems to be it would be a wonderful gift for that special someone. Hugh Hefner loved this character.
As always thank you for stopping in to browse here at Sisters we hoped you enjoyed your experience hope to see you again soon.

In the early 1970’s, two British Antique jewelers and designers, Nicky Butler and Simon Wilson started their own company, Butler & Wilson. Their jewelry was well made and utilized Austrian rhinestones and crystals all prong set and set into base gun metal, rhodium, polished gold plated or silver plated metals. The jewelry was very popular and was sought after because of its global flair. Princess Diana wore brooches by Butler & Wilson. The jewelry is marked “B & W” or Butler & Wilson. The partnership broke up in the 1990’s with Simon Wilson retaining the Butler and Wilson name. Since that time, Nicky Butler, under his own name, has designed and manufactured costume jewelry.
