This is a vintage elaborate Czechoslovakian filigree pendant circa 1920's . In the photos you can actually see how the stunning center topaz crystal was hand cut showing rows of facets that only a master could achieve. That center stone is bezel set in the delicate filigree work setting that is sterling silver with a gold vermeil wash. This stunning statement pendant measures just over 1 3/4" long and is 1 1/4" wide. The style of cut to this stone commonly seen from the crystal and glass cutters of Gablonz. Amazingly these stunning stones were cut with hand and foot driven wheels with the crystal glued to a wooden peg to allow better control and handling during the cutting. I am no expert but I think the stunning filigree work was actually hand cut as well and not stamped as this is silver and not brass. All that being said this is a truly stunning creation with any imperfections in the glass/crystal coming from its creation. The center stone is open back and allows the light to flow translucently through it... It is stamped on the back of the piece on the edge......STERLING. The necklace chain and beads that accompany this pendant seem boast topaz beads that truly look as if they were poured rather than blown or even pressed before being slightly hand faceted. They are small and there is some small chipping that you have to look closely to see. The chain is 14" long and i am not sure it was original to the pendant. There are no markings on the chain and seems to be brass when examined through a loupe.
Over all a wonderful piece of workmanship that has survived well through time to be enjoyed today.
