Peruvian culture is known for its shamans, witches, and practitioners of folk magic. Ekeko the Peddler is the folk god of prosperity and abundance. He is loaded with parcels, baskets, and Peruvian 50-sol notes. His mouth is shaped to accept the traditional offering of a cigarette, and more money and goods may be attached to him as offerings. Glazed clay statue measures approx. 7" tall with a 6" arm span (18cm x 15.5cm). Comes with a parchment scroll that explains the Ekeko legend in Spanish. In excellent vintage condition.
