This white lusterware ceramic elephant is decorated in the manner of real elephants at festivals in India, where they respresent Ganesha, the Hindu god of wisdom and the arts. His trunk is raised, denoting good fortune. The whole piece has a beautiful iridescent sheen. Measures approx. 6" tall x 9" long x 4" wide (16cm x 23cm x 10.5cm). Marked on bottom: "Arnel's" (an Oregon company that made ceramic molds from the 1950s to the mid-1970s). A couple of tiny chips in glaze; otherwise in excellent vintage condition.
