A traditional form of Mexican folk art, nichos are small, brightly colored shadowboxes that function as portable shrines. Those made for the Day of the Dead often feature skeletons in satirical poses. This cut tin nicho has a latching glass door that opens on two clay skeletons kissing, surrounded by hearts, together with the phrase "Besame Mucho" ("Kiss me a lot"). Measures approx. 5.5" tall x 5.5" wide x 1" deep (14cm x 14cm x 2.5cm). Labeled on back: "Model # MINIC-08 Cielo Lindo Estudio, San Miguel de Allende, Gto. Hecho a Mano in Mexico." In excellent vintage condition.
