Probably dating from the 1930s or 1940s, this unusual rosary is made of seeds from the spina christi tree, said to be the source of Christ's crown of thorns. The reliquary crucifix opens to reveal a tiny slip of paper reading "terra catacumba" and a few grains of earth from the Roman catacombs. Loop portion of rosary measures approx. 29" (74cm). Tail portion with crucifix measures approx. 8" (20.5cm). Cross is marked on back: ROMA. In excellent vintage condition.
