This group of four sterling silver button hooks, which were used to close the hooks on women's shoes. were made by four separate manufacturers, circa 1875. These manufacturers are Wm. B. Kerr, Gorham Silver Co., Tuttle Co. and the fourth has no makers mark, only sterling. This piece is marked "Cross" which was the retailer who sold the item. All of the hooks are made of iron. The hook made by Wm. B Kerr has a three initial monogram "VCE". All four pieces were used and show appropriate wear.
