This beautiful basket was made in the Netherlands in 1842. It was made of .883 silver. What this means is that the silver is 88.3% pure, as compared to sterling silver, which most Americans are familiar with, which has a purity of 92.5%.
The craftsmanship on this piece is superb. Please look at the main body of the basket. Each individual space between each cross is hand cut by a saw blade. Also look at the hand engraving on each cross. This basket is a wonderful example of craftsmanship and patience. All of the components of this piece that have been cast, the four feet and two handles are each hallmarked with the letters "HZ".
