This very rare and beautiful dish cross was made in London in the year 1763. It was made by two of England's great 18th century silversmiths J. Langford and J. Sebelle. As you can see from the photographs, the width of the cross can be adjusted to accommodate a plate up to 10". This is done by moving the feet either in to or out from the center burner in order to accommodate the size of the plate. The design of this piece is very simple and uncomplicated as can be seen by looking at the center burner and the four arms coming out from the burner. It is only when you get to the feet of the cross that a beautiful design emerges. The reason for this is that when the cross is holding a plate, the only part of the cross that you are able to see are the feet.
