This elegant sterling silver cake server was manufactured by William Farber & Sons of Philadelphia. The company was in business from 1866 until 1892.
This company was part of what was known as the aesthetic movement which reached it's height in the second half of the 19th century. This piece is a classic example of that movement with it's beautiful engraving on the blade and handle. It also shows the artistry and craftsmanship of that time. At the top of the handle there is a three letter monogram "AMG".
