This extraordinary miniature sterling silver bowl was made for Tiffany & Co. by silversmith William Gale & Sons, circa 1860. What I find amazing about this piece is the attention to detail that was given to its creation. Even though this is a small miniature bowl there was no lack of craftsmanship as it was being made. One reason for this is that this may have been part of a salesman's sample line because, at that time, a traveling salesman couldn't carry around a full-size line, so, miniature examples were made up to show a client what his company offered for sale. If anyone has any feedback on this thought please let me know.
