This beautifully bound Booklet is a faithful reprint of the photographic record of the Berlin Fashion Exposition of 1896 addressing the affects of history on fashion for the previous 100 years. I purchased the original at auction almost one hundred years later in the 1990's and felt it something that French fashion doll enthusiasts, history buffs, and vintage fashion lovers should peruse for pleasure, education and ideas for costuming dolls, so I reprinted it for all to enjoy. Size is approximately 9 x 12" and about 31 pages. with 22 black and white photo plates which face blank pages for protection from ink bleeding on them from a facing page.
One might say this is a "coffee table quality" booklet! The heavy but flexible outer cover is leather grained in a beautiful burgundy and embossed in gold metallic lettering. The inside paper stock is also high quality.
Of course, the original was in German, which was carefully translated to English for more to enjoy. The book contains 20 full page black and white photographs of the exposition with fashions displayed on beautiful life size wax mannequins of the period which almost convince one they are live models! They include men, women and children. Close examination brings one to observe a child figure here or there that are not quite in proper proportion, thus bringing about the deduction that all are actually mannequins.
The facts presented are not usually presented in current books about fashion, so it is quite enlightening to realize that actual historical events affected the fashion trends and it was not just the creative imaginations of fashion designers.
The last photo of this listing shows the various colors the covers were printed on. All have the look of real leather, dyed in the beautiful jewel tone of your choice: Scarlet Red, Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green, and Burgundy.
