IMPORTANT NOTE: The spot seen on her left cheek is just a reflection of light. Not a rub.
Once again, you have found an exceptional French Bebe in Aunt Janie’s Doll Trunk! Perhaps you’ve seen quite a number of Tete Jumeau’s, but this one stopped you! Is it the perfection of her blue paperweight eyes? Not too big and not too small? Is it the pleasant expression with the upward curve of the corners of her mouth or the brows being not to heavy? Or maybe she’s framed just right with her full and wonderfully long antique mohair tresses and blue outfit to match her eyes! I know…! You can’t just name one thing! It’s the whole picture! She’s just a dream! (Please note: the light spot areas on her cheeks are reflection of light and NOT rubs. Look at another photo taken from a different angle and you will see the spot is no longer there.)
CONDITION: Not only is she beautiful, she is in generally excellent condition with no damage, repairs or hairlines to the bisque head. As shown in photos, with the intent of full disclosure, she bears a few insignificant “in-the-making” flaws, which are quite the normal situation if everyone were to tell the truth or be able to really see them. Most are not noticed unless under a scrutinous eye at great magnification: such as, a slight indentation in her philtrum above her lips, a one-inch line behind her ear which does not extend to a hairline in either direction so is stable and not considered damage. Lastly, there is a bit of texture to her left eyebrow paint and a very tiny rub on the bottom of her chin.
HEAD: She has wonderful “oily” bisque with a natural glow from being fired just right! The feature painting reflects the skill and artistry one comes to expect from the Jumeau firm of Paris France at the height of its production! On the back of her head she is marked with the typical red stamp DEPOSE TETE JUMEAU BTe S.G.D.G. with artist marks in red paint “WV” and size 12. She is a little more than 26” tall and has been recently restrung so can hold a pose. I have noted that her eyes appear to have been reset, as I look at the plaster on her head interior, but perhaps that was only because they may not have been set with a true focal point, because I see them as having a perfect fit and gaze, and without scratches. She retains her original cork pate, has a neck button attachment rather than a spring attachment and a very lovely blond antique mohair wig with long tresses but no extensions which may be her original wig.
BODY: What a joy it is to find a doll with body in great condition. This is more likely to occur with larger dolls because they were more difficult for children to play with. She has the typical very chunky Jumeau jointed body which, looks large without her wig on but looks just right with her wonderfully full wig. Her hands, feet, and joints show very little wear and she bears the purple/blue stamp on her back side which was used earlier than the paper label.
CLOTHING: I was told that her pretty two piece dress is a copy of her original dress quite a complicated pattern when seen from the side and back!. I have included some photos of the details and trim. Just the perfect color choice to go with her blue eyes! She wears pantaloons with purple ribbon running through the entredeux lace and tied at the knees and an antique full slip. An adorable antique straw hat with roses atop offers the finishing touch. Oh! She also is so proud to have taken such good care of her original Jumeau shoes, stamped with a bee on the bottom of the soles, though they may need another button for closure.
Will the owner of her new home please stand up? You will have to wave so I can see you in the crowd! I know you will admire and enjoy this fabulous addition to your collection. She’ll shine like a star!
